The Candidate

‘During the day I felt I was in a concrete jungle when I was working in law. By night, there were glitter and G-Strings. It was the best thing I did – leaving Law for Pole’

Zahra Startdust

Zahra is the Australian 2012 Miss Naked Pole Dancing Champion as well as a law graduate and human rights advocate. In 2012 she ran against Clover Moore in the City of Sydney Council elections. As a strong feminist, she challenges conceptions of the ownership and empowerment of female sexuality. Zahra campaigned to have Pole Dancing as a part of the 2012 London Olympics.

This image raised a simple question, Is Pole Dancing a sport? It seems that it is, as long as you don’t work in the sex industry. What and who defines a sport and who is allowed to compete?
